Ist International Conference on SIRAH

The Ist International Conference on “Insights from the Sirah of The Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him): Building Social Harmony, National Integration, and Peace in Pakistan” was held on February 22, 2025, at Al-Fajr Institute, Mari Indus, Mianwali. This significant international event was organized by Al-Fajr Institute, Mari Indus, Mianwali, in collaboration with the International Center of Excellence for Sirah Studies, the Islamic Research Institute (IRI), International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI), and Jamia Muhammadi Sharif, Chiniot. As part of the Paigham-e-Pakistan activities carried out across Pakistan and abroad, this event was also an integral part of the Sirah Project of IRI. The main objective of the conference was to promote interfaith harmony and strengthen national integration. The conference was presided over by Syed Iftikhar Hussain Naqvi Al-Najfi, Chairman of Al-Aeen Educational Foundation Islamabad, while Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, former Prime Minister of Pakistan, served as the Chief Guest. The conference welcomed renowned international speakers, including Mufti Muhammad Hashim, Professor Elham Alshaibani (Karbala University, Iraq), Prof. Dr. Bulent Senay (Bursa Uludag University, Turkey), Professor Sumiya Sulman Ali (The University of Jordon), HE Ayatollah Bashir Hussain Najfi, HE Ayatollah Doori Najaf Abidi, and HE Ayatollah Syed Izz al-Din al-Hakim. More than 100 scholars from Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Egypt, and other countries participated in the event. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Muntazir Mehdi, Head of the Department of English at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) Islamabad. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq, Director General of the Islamic Research Institute (IRI), International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), elaborated on the conference’s objectives, emphasizing that the teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) provide a foundation for peace, conflict resolution, and fostering harmony within diverse communities. The opening ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by a welcome speech by Dr. Muntazir Mehdi. The Chief Guest, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, delivered a keynote address on interfaith harmony and national unity. Throughout the event, scholarly discussions took place on the role of the Prophet's (PBUH) teachings in promoting peace, inclusivity, and societal harmony. Several parallel sessions were conducted during the conference, covering a range of important topics. The session on Sirah and Interfaith Harmony explored the promotion of social tolerance and global peace. The Sirah and Modern Education session focused on integrating Islamic values into contemporary educational policies. Another session, National Integration and Social Harmony, highlighted the Prophet’s (PBUH) role in fostering unity and cohesion. Additionally, the Sirah and Digital Media session examined the use of technology and social media to spread the message of peace and counter misinformation. During the conference, Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Rector of IIUI, presented IRI publications to former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as a token of appreciation. Additionally, the Iranian Ambassador was honored with IRI gifts in recognition of his participation. The conference served as an important platform for fostering better relations among nations, emphasizing the central role of faith-based teachings in promoting a peaceful and inclusive society. Through discussions, debates, and scholarly insights, participants explored practical solutions to modern-day challenges, all illuminated by the conduct and teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
